Module Reprogramming starts from $350+
Reprogramming may not fix your issue, reprogramming usually is recomended if there is a TSB is avaliable and specifies reprogramming for a certain issue.
Ford
J2534 reprogramming requires the use of official Ford
software: either FJDS (Ford
J2534 Diagnostic Software) for older models (1996-2018) or FDRS (Ford
Diagnostic & Repair System) for newer models (2018 and onwards). Access to these systems requires a valid, time-based subscription from the Motorcraft service website.
Software: Ford
diagnostic software must be downloaded and installed on a PC meeting the minimum specifications posted here. The software may be downloaded for free, however requires the purchase of a software license or “activation key” that is entered into the software to allow use of the software. Ford
diagnostic software consists of three different products which are detailed below.
Integrated Diagnostic Software (IDS) – Provides complete dealership level vehicle diagnostic coverage for all 1996 to select 2018 Ford
, Lincoln
and Mercury
vehicles. IDS requires the use of Ford
diagnostic hardware including VCM, VCM II, and VCMM devices. The IDS software license includes time based access to the IDS software, software updates and calibration files.
Ford J2534 Diagnostic Software (FJDS) – Provides module reprogramming software that covers 1996 to select 2018 Ford
, Lincoln
and Mercury
module reprogramming functions, plus complete dealership level diagnostic software for all 2018 to present Ford
and Lincoln
vehicles. FJDS is designed for use with J2534 compatible Vehicle Communications Interfaces (VCI) including Ford
diagnostic hardware (VCM II, or VCMM). The FJDS software license includes time based access to the FJDS software, software updates and calibration files.
Ford Diagnostic & Repair System (FDRS) – The next generation factory Ford
Motor Company vehicle diagnostic Software designed for use with VCM II, VCMM and J2534 compatible Vehicle Communications Interfaces (VCI). FDRS provides complete dealership level vehicle diagnostic coverage for some 2018 and forward vehicles. FDRS provides superior capabilities, is more user-friendly and provides more diagnostic tools than IDS. The cloud-based system ensures the technician is provided the latest software every time FDRS logs into the Ford
network. The FDRS software license is shared with IDS or FJDS. Access to FDRS is included with the purchase of either IDS or FJDS software license.
VCM II – The VCM II is Ford
’s diagnostic hardware Vehicle Communication Interface (VCI) device. The VCM II is required for use of IDS, and is the recommended VCI for use with both FDRS and FJDS. For more information or if you would like to purchase a VCM II please click here.
Vehicle Communication Module 3 (VCM3)
The VCM3 is Ford
| Rotunda’s latest Vehicle Communication Module (VCM) and is required for use of IDS, and is the recommended VCI for use with both FDRS and FJDS. Unlike the VCMII and VCMM, the VCM3 is capable of communicating on both the J1708 and J1939 networks. This allows for a higher level of diagnostics on Medium Duty Trucks when paired with the Rotunda Medium Duty Truck DLC adapter and manufacturer specific software. We trust this upgrade will help you service the needs of your customers. It’s also capable of performing module reprogramming at increased speeds on vehicles that are soon to be released and are equipped with the new CAN-FD network. For more information or if you would like to purchase a VCM3 please visit OneRotunda.com.
Software and Subscription Requirements
Ford
uses two primary software platforms that are compatible with J2534 devices:
- FJDS: Primarily for module programming on most Ford
, Lincoln
, and Mercury
vehicles from 1996 up to specific 2018 models, with some diagnostic capabilities for 2018+ vehicles. It is designed to work with J2534-compliant interfaces. - FDRS: The next-generation, cloud-based software for 2018 and newer vehicles, offering superior diagnostics and guided procedures. The software license for FDRS is typically shared with an FJDS or IDS license.
Subscriptions are available in various durations:
- 2 days: Approximately $120.
- 1 month (30 days): Approximately $300.
- 1 year (365 days): Approximately $1,200.
- Per-VIN: A less common option is available for specific needs, such as programming transponder keys (PATS functions).
