Summary
Background In a Part 573 Safety recall report dated August 28, 2015, Peter Paul Electronics, Co., Inc. (Peter Paul) that it decided that a defect exists in certain nitrous oxide solenoid valves, part numbers 22X01421GM 12/DC, 22X01431GM 12/DC; 22X01441GM 12/DC; 70-1010; 22X01701GM 12/DC; 22X00981GM 12/DC; 22X01031GM 12/DC; 22X01481GM 12/DC; 22X01731GM 16/DC; 22X01751GM 12/DC; 22X01761GM 12/DC; 22X01781GM 16/DC; 22X01821GM 16/DC; 22X01861GM 12/DC;22X01871GM 12/DC; 22X01881GM 12/DC; O22X00551GM 12/DC; and O22X00591GM 16/DC manufactured May 5, 2015, to July 24, 2015.The affected valves have end stops on sleeves that may break when under pressure either during installation or during use.If the end stop on the sleeves breaks, the end stop may come off under pressure, increasing the risk of injury to those nearby or possibly damaging other nearby components.This matter was assigned recall number 15E-072. In their 573 Defect Notification Report, Peter Paul identified several manufactures of aftermarketequipment that were sold the defective valves.On February 8, 2016, the Recall Management Division (RMD) opened this Equipment Query (EQ) Investigation in order to obtain Peter Paul's customer list and to contact the companies that purchased the nitrous oxide solenoid valves, notify them of the defect and ensure thorough safety recalls are conducted where appropriate. In a letter dated February 11, 2016, Peter Paul responded to the information request letter and submitted the requested purchaser list.Letters were sent via email to each company on May 9, 2016. RECALL MANAGEMENT DIVISION ACTION RMD sent letters on May 9, 2016 to each purchaser and requested a safety recall decision be made and the requisite notice filed and recall campaign conducted where appropriate.As a result, the following manufacturers have filed defect reports and are conducting safety recalls: ? Wilson Manifolds (16E-056) ? Nitrous Outlet (16E-034) ? Speedtech (16E-058) ? Induction Solutions (16E-035) ? The following companies have provided written statements that they did not sell any products containing the defective valves to customers: ? Edelbrock Corporation ? Musi Enterprises ? Switzer Dynamics After numerous attempts, the following companies refused to respond to the NHTSA inquiry and have been referred to Chief Counsel: ? Nitrous Supply? Competition Cams, Inc.
