Reprogramming may not fix your issue, reprogramming usually is recomended if there is a TSB is avaliable and specifies reprogramming for a certain issue.

J2534 reprogramming requires a subscription to the official XENTRY Pass Thru software via the StarTekInfo website and a compatible J2534-compliant device. However, J2534 programming with Mercedes software is subject to significant functional limitations compared to the full dealer XENTRY Diagnosis Kit.
Software and Subscriptions
Access to the official Mercedes-Benz software is managed through the StarTekInfo website for US customers and B2B Connect for EU customers.
- XENTRY Pass Thru Software: This is the application used for J2534 reprogramming and diagnostics. It is online-dependent for full functionality.
- Subscription Pricing: A full software subscription (which includes one year of access) costs approximately $3,922.53. A separate, much more expensive subscription is required for the full dealer XENTRY Diagnosis Kit.
- SCN Coding: Software Calibration Number (SCN) coding, required after replacing or updating many modules, is performed online using the XENTRY software.
Hardware Requirements
You will need a Windows-based PC and a J2534 interface:
- J2534 Pass-Thru Device: The official dealer tool is the XENTRY Diagnosis VCI (Vehicle Communication Interface). Many aftermarket J2534-1 and J2534-2 compliant devices are compatible, but with limitations. Examples include the Autel MaxiFlash Elite J2534 and the Drew Technologies CarDAQ-Plus 3. For newer vehicles, the device should support DoIP (Diagnostics over Internet Protocol).
- Computer: A PC running Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) with an Intel i5 processor or better, a minimum of 8 GB RAM (16 GB recommended), and at least 150 GB of free SSD space is recommended.
- Stable Power Supply: A high-amperage, regulated power supply is critical to maintain constant voltage during programming.
- Reliable Internet Connection: A stable internet connection is essential as the XENTRY software relies heavily on online services.
Limitations of J2534 for Mercedes
The J2534 Pass Thru software has specific limitations that independent shops should be aware of:
- Limited Module Coverage (2004-2017): For vehicles between the 2004 and 2017 model years, the J2534 software can typically only diagnose and program the Engine Control Module (ECM) and Transmission Control Module (TCM) (emissions-related modules).
- Broader Coverage (2018+): For 2018 and newer models, the software is able to diagnose all control modules and perform XENTRY Flash programming, but it cannot perform certain security-related functions like DAS4 key coding.
- Full Functionality: For complete, dealer-level functionality across all modules and model years, the expensive official XENTRY Diagnosis Kit is necessary.

Staring with Model Year 2018 and newer the J2534PT SW can diagnose all control modules and do XENTRY Flash except DAS4 Key coding and DAS3 Key coding for Sprinter.

- Newer vehicles might require a DoIP adapter for flashing. Starting with diagnosis release 6/25, there will also be information in the XENTRY Diagnosis software telling the users that the DoIP adapter is needed.

- Your purchase of the J2534PT accompanies a 12-month Start Key and XENTRY Flash Rights for one (1) user for a period of 12 months.
- Mandatory log in procedure with personalized log in and standard diagnosis rights required.
- During the purchase process, a link, including instructions, will be provided for you to download the software.
- The Hardware ID is required for the StartKey to be ordered and can be found on the popup window during the software installation. The Hardware ID can also be found via the ConfigAssist > Configure > Round Padlock icon.
- If you are RENEWING the StartKey for an existing Hardware ID, you will be asked to provide this during the purchase process.
- Once the information is received, the StartKey will be ordered and generally delivered electronically in 24-48 hours, including a StartKey Import Guide and user rights extension.
