Module Reprogramming starts from $350+
Reprogramming may not fix your issue, reprogramming usually is recomended if there is a TSB is avaliable and specifies reprogramming for a certain issue.
Chrysler
, as part of Stellantis, provides J2534 reprogramming access through its wiTECH 2.0 system for newer vehicles and a legacy J2534 application for older ones, both requiring paid subscriptions to access the correct software and calibration files.
Software and Subscriptions
Access to the necessary software and calibration files is managed through the Stellantis Independent Operator Portal (IOP) (formerly TechAuthority) website.
- wiTECH 2.0 J2534 Application: This is the primary software for modern (post-2009, with some exceptions) vehicles. It runs on a Windows 10 PC and requires an active subscription, often sold per VIN.
- Reprogramming Subscription: Costs around $35 per VIN and provides access to all necessary flashes for that single VIN for one year.
- Requires Account and Approval: You must create an account on the Stellantis IOP and have your J2534 device serial number approved before purchasing subscriptions.
- Legacy Chrysler
J2534 Application: This standalone application is used for older vehicles (typically pre-2009) and is launched from within the wiTECH 2.0 software. It primarily handles PCM and TCM reprogramming.
- Subscription Model: Access for the legacy software is often bundled with a general Tech Authority subscription (e.g., daily, monthly, annual access), not the per-VIN model used by wiTECH 2.0.
Hardware Requirements
In addition to a Windows-based PC, specific hardware is needed:
- J2534 Pass-Thru Device: Any J2534-1 compliant interface will work, but for some vehicles with multiple CAN networks, a device that supports 3 hardware CAN channels is necessary.
- The official dealer tool is the Mopar
Diagnostic Pod (MDP), but many aftermarket J2534 devices are verified to work, such as the Opus IVS CarDAQ-Plus 3 or the Topdon RLink.

- Stable Power Supply: A high-amperage (30A or more) regulated battery maintainer is critical to maintain constant voltage during the flash process, as a power interruption can permanently damage the module.
- Reliable Internet: Needed to download the software and calibration files. The files for the legacy application are often saved to a specific temporary folder on the computer.
Key Considerations
- Multiple Networks: Chrysler
/Stellantis vehicles often have complex network architectures. Some older vehicles use SCI (Serial Communications Interface) or multiple CAN buses, requiring specific files (.efdor.flbin) and capable J2534 tools to communicate correctly. - Security Gateway Module (SGW): Many modern (2018+) Stellantis vehicles are equipped with an SGW that blocks aftermarket scan tools from performing certain functions. While J2534 reprogramming is handled separately, advanced diagnostics may require a tool with an “AutoAuth for FCA
” subscription or the official MDP tool to bypass the gateway. - Model Year Support: While emissions ECUs are covered for 2004+ vehicles by regulation, many older vehicles (back to 1996) can also be programmed with the Chrysler
J2534 applications. - Post-Programming Procedures: After flashing an ECU, you may need to perform additional procedures such as clearing DTCs, performing a PROXI alignment, or a transmission quicklearn procedure using an aftermarket scan tool or the wiTECH software.
J2534 Flash Availability
The attached J2534 Flash Availability document is intended to provide Aftermarket users with the correct ECU flash reprogramming part number and designated supercedence list. To perform flashes via J2534, a Tech Authority subscription will be required in addition to the wiTECH subscription.
PROCEDURE:
To use the J2534 Flash Availability document:
- Confirm current ECU software part number or new generic ECU replacement part number.
- Review the J2534 Flash Availability document for the vehicle YME (year, model, and engine) and the ECU
- Review list for updated ECU part number and supercedence.
Supercedence:
- This is the list of supported software part numbers that a specific ECU flash will update.
- If the current software part number is not listed, the flash will not update the controller and is not applicable to that particular YME and part.
Steps After Successful Flash Reprogramming:
- Chrysler
J2534 Flash Application for 2009 and earlier vehicles does not provide any functionality for Routine/Key programming after a successful flash. - After successful reprogramming or replacement of any J2534-applicable ECU, the J2534 generic scan tool user must follow associated Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) for any additionally required steps.
- TSB information can be found on TechAuthority Online website.
- If a routine must be performed in order to start the vehicle, J2534 users will need to refer to TSB 08-030-06 REV.A for more details.
NOTE: The New J2534 Application supports these functions on only 2010 and newer vehicles.
