Toyota
, Lexus, and Scion J2534 reprogramming requires a validated J2534 interface and an active Professional Diagnostic level subscription to the Toyota Technical Information System (TIS) website. The process uses the Toyota Calibration Update Wizard (CUW) software installed alongside the Techstream software.
Software and Subscriptions
To access the necessary software and calibration files, you must use the official Toyota TIS website.
- Techstream Software: This is Toyota’s main diagnostic software, and it includes the Calibration Update Wizard (CUW).
- TIS Professional Diagnostic Subscription: You need this specific subscription level to download calibration files and perform reprogramming functions. The standard subscription is not sufficient for this purpose.
- Subscription Pricing: As of November 2025, a 2-day subscription costs about $80 US, and an annual subscription is about $1,500 US, according to the TIS website.
- Operating System: The software runs on a Windows-based PC, compatible with Windows 7, 8, 10, and 11.
Hardware Requirements
Toyota strongly recommends using only J2534 interface devices that they have specifically tested and validated to work safely and efficiently with their products.

- Computer: A personal computer running Microsoft Windows with sufficient memory and storage.
- Stable Power Supply: A high-quality battery maintainer that can supply a stable 13.5 volts is crucial to maintain battery voltage and prevent ECU damage during programming.
- Internet Connection: A high-speed connection is needed to download the calibration files from TIS.
Reprogramming Procedure
- Subscribe to TIS: Purchase a Professional Diagnostic subscription on the techinfo.toyota.com website.
- Install Software: Download and install the Techstream software and the specific drivers for your validated J2534 device.
- Identify TSB: Access the TIS website to find the relevant Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) that specifies the need for a flash update and contains the link to the correct calibration file.
- Connect Hardware: Connect the J2534 device to the vehicle’s OBD-II port and your PC. Attach a stable power supply to the vehicle’s battery.
- Launch CUW: Launch the Calibration Update Wizard (CUW) from within the Techstream software.
- Program the ECU: Follow the software prompts to select the generic J2534 interface, download the calibration file from TIS, and flash the vehicle’s Engine Control Module (ECM). The software will guide you through the process of cycling the ignition on and off as needed.
- Verify and Finalize: Once programming is successful, clear any DTCs and perform any necessary post-programming procedures, such as an idle relearn.

TIS is offered on a subscription basis. Your TIS account will allow you to access the service information content available for all Toyota marketing divisions in North America. Before you subscribe, please note that this site does not contain information in support of vehicles that were not available for sale in North America.
Subscription access to TIS is offered in 2 day, monthly, or yearly intervals following the rate schedule noted below. Note: All pricing is in US dollars.

NOTE: All subscriptions expire at midnight, Pacific Time on the last day of your term.
This means a two-day subscription may actually provide greater than 48 hours of usable access.
A Standard TIS subscription provides access to the technical information library for all Toyota, Scion, and Lexus vehicles marketed in North America. A Standard subscription allows vehicle model and year specific publication searches for the information needed to maintain, diagnose, and repair all Toyota, Scion, and Lexus vehicles. As a general rule, model coverage begins with the 1990 model year with some information, like Technical Service Bulletins, available back to 1987.
A Professional Diagnostic TIS subscription provides the same access to the technical information library provided with the Standard subscription. A Professional Diagnostic subscription also allows use of Techstream scantool software, all available ECU calibration files, and Identifix Direct-Hit (details below). Package a Professional Diagnostic subscription with a TIS Techstream or Techstream Lite to fully enable scantool diagnostics and vehicle reprogramming capability (USA/Mexico VIN information only). Note: Techstream software registration is limited to one PC per each professional level subscription. You must purchase additional professional level subscriptions to use Techstream software on additional PCs.
*A Security Professional TIS subscription provides the same access provided with the Professional Diagnostic subscription along with access to vehicle security information, including key codes and immobilizer/smart reset capability.
