Service
Clear the DTCs P014800 and P008700 from the Engine control unit. If the DTC(s) are set again, perform the tests
connected to testing the low-pressure pump per the repair manual ELSA, please note if fault does not reset and
vehicle is in for the first time no further diagnosis is required:
* “Checking fuel delivery rate”
and
* “Pressure test in the fuel supply line’.
Follow the following procedure if concern reproducible or static:
* — Install the VAS 6550 pressure gauge on the low-pressure side just before the high-pressure fuel pump, so that
the in-line fuel pressure on the low-pressure side can be monitored while the engine is running. Please select
the self-diagnosis function in ODIS-S and set up a graph of measured high-pressure measured values (Actual
VS. Specified), so that the in-line fuel pressure on the high-pressure side can be monitored while the engine is
running.
* While the engine is running, monitor the in-line fuel pressures on the high and low side. If the pressure on the
low side does not drop below 3 bar and the pressure on the high side does not exceed 20 bar, the high-
pressure fuel pump should be replaced.
Follow the following procedure for repeat repairs in cases where the concern is not reproducible:
* Check the expanded ambient conditions for DTCs P014800 and P008700. If the fuel rail pressure (i.e. on the
high-pressure side) is approximately 10 bar, please proceed with replacing with replacing the High-pressure
fuel pump before replacing any other parts connected to the fuel system.
The example below can be used as a reference, the actual fuel pressure at the rail is 880 kPa (8.8bar) highlight in
the blue box. The Specified value is 243.5 bar highlighted in yellow. In this case the high-pressure fuel pump would
need to be replaced.
