CUSTOMER
SYMPTOM:
Rattle, buzz and squeak coming from specific speakers.
CAUSE:
Speaker grille, bezel or other cause must be investigated before speaker replacement.
DISCUSSION:
This Information only bulletin is to be used as a diagnostic aid to correctly identify non-speaker-related BSR
conditions originating from interior trim, door structure, or integration issues, and prevent unnecessary speaker
replacement.
This bulletin does not contain Claims Data information.
STEP 1: REPRODUCE NOISE
Purpose:
Confirm the customer’s reported concern under controlled and repeatable conditions before any diagnosis or
component removal is performed.
B08 FSAR-TSB-6854
-2-
Preconditions:
● Vehicle ignition ON.
● Diagnostic tool available for DTC reading.
● Audio system operational.
Test Procedure:
1. Read DTCs using diagnostic tool – If any Speaker related DTC present follow the DTC based diagnostic
procedure.
2. If no DTC present, confirm all the available interior SOL/service procedure is checked.
3. Isolate the issue based on the speaker location (Eg. Door speaker, front IP speaker, Headliner speakers,
Subwoofer or Soundbar).
4. Keep Bass: +3 to +5, Balance/Fade: toward the direction of the issue noted.
5. Based on the location of the speaker at fault, use the following audio tests/files inTable 1.
NOTE: The "Audio Test Files for Diagnosis" are available under "Reference Materials" section on
main page of DealerCONNECT Fig. 1.

80Hz_Audio_test_file.mp3
NOTE: If vehicle is not equipped with an external amplifier, skip Tone Test and use
80Hz_Audio_test_file.mp3.
NOTE: Use only the specified test audio for the speaker location. Using low-frequency (bass) test
files on IP or headliner speakers may induce false trim or structure vibration and lead to
incorrect speaker replacement.
6. Increase volume gradually if not using the tone test.
Expected Result:
● The reported audio distortion, cutout, or BSR is reproducible under controlled conditions.
Next Step / Pass-Fail Criteria:
● Pass: Concern cannot be reproduced. Do NOT replace speaker. Return vehicle to customer or continue
diagnosis only if additional symptoms are present. Proceed to Step 5.
● Fail: Noise present → Proceed to Step 2.

STEP 2: ENCLOSURE & TRIM PRESSURE TEST
Preconditions:
● Vehicle ignition ON.
● Audio system operational.
Test Procedure:
1. Use the 40Hz, 80Hz audio test file or WiTECH tone test based on the speaker location defined in Table 1.
2. Keep Bass: +3 to +5, Balance/Fade: towards the speaker exhibiting the issue.
3. Depending on the location of the speaker, apply hand pressure to:
●
●
●
●
●
●
●
●
●
●
●
●
●
Speaker grille area.
Armrest.
Switch bezel.
Door handle trim.
Headliner perimeter around speaker.
Roof bow / cross-car beam area.
Upper IP pad.
Defroster grille.
Adjacent trim seams.
Subwoofer enclosure.
Adjacent trim panels.
Seat frame / brackets.
Floor or quarter trim near enclosure.
Next Step / Pass-Fail Criteria:
Pass: If noise changes or stop after applying hand pressure. DO NOT REPLACE SPEAKER and investigate:
●
●
●
●
●
●
●
●
●
●
●
●
●
Loose/missing clips.
Plastic-to-plastic contact.
Vapor barrier interference.
Headliner-to-roof bow contact.
Loose retainers.
Insufficient felt / foam isolation.
IP pad to carrier interface.
Grille looseness.
Defroster duct contact.
Harness / clip rattle.
Trim contact points.
Seat or bracket vibration.
Enclosure contacting body.
FAIL: If no change in noise observed after applying hand pressure. Proceed to Step 3.
STEP 3: SPEAKER DECOUPLING TEST
Test Procedure:
1. Remove speaker fasteners.
2. Pull speaker forward (keep connected).
3. Replay heavy bass audio track or WiTECH tone test based on the speaker location defined in Table 1.
B08 FSAR-TSB-6854
-4-
Next Step / Pass-Fail Criteria:
Pass: Noise disappears when speaker is decoupled. DO NOT REPLACE SPEAKER as it could be door
structure or mounting issue. Check for:
● Mounting surface flatness.
● Missing foam / gasket.
● Torque condition.
FAIL: If no change in noise observed. Proceed to Step 4.
STEP 4: SPEAKER COMPARISON TEST (If available)
Purpose:
● Validate speaker integrity using a known-good speaker.
Test Procedure:
1. Connect known-good speaker to same harness.
2. Position speaker free-air (not mounted).
3. Replay WiTECH tone test.
Next Step / Pass-Fail Criteria:
Pass: If the noise remains with known good speaker. It could be wiring / structure / mounting issue. DO NOT
REPLACE SPEAKER.
Fail: If the noise is not present with known good speaker, replace speaker.
STEP 5: OTHER POSSIBLE CAUSES
Check other areas like:
●
●
●
●
●
Speaker wiring harness routing.
Connector back-out.
Ground points.
Seat frame or body cross-members.
Shared fasteners between speaker and trim.
APPENDIX A: TONE TEST – AMPLIFIER TO SPEAKER CONNECTION VALIDATION
Purpose:
Confirm proper connection and functionality between amplifier output channels and corresponding vehicle
speakers. This test is ONLY applicable to the vehicle equipped with the external amplifier.
Preconditions:
● Vehicle ignition ON.
● WiTech Tool connected to vehicle OBD port.
Test Procedure:
1. Connect WiTech Tool to vehicle OBD port.
2. Navigate to “Misc Functions” in the AMP from Topology page Fig. 2.

Channel Selection
6. If needed, tone test can be played in another channel. In the below screen Fig. 6, select another channel to
play the tone test or “Cancel” to exit.
Fig. 6
Selection of another channel or cancel
7. Confirm an audible test tone is heard from the corresponding speaker.
8. Repeat Step 5 of Appendix A for each individual output channel.
NOTE: Number of channels varies by amplifier variant (e.g., 17Ch Amp = 16 speaker channels + 1
sub/amp channel).
