SITUATION
A reference label for the tailgate Smart
Opener (SMO) function (aka “touchless open,
or “kick to open”) was mistakenly applied to
the bottom edge of the tailgate trim panel
(either of the general locations circled) during
vehicle production.
However, the vehicles do not have the option
code for the equipment to support the SMO.
The label may cause confusion, leading the
customer to believe this option is available.
G07 shown; other models are similar.
CORRECTION
Remove the SMO label.

51 01 26_SERVICE ACTION: REMOVE TAILGATE OPENER LABEL
1. Open the main tailgate and look for the SMO
label (in the red border) along the bottom edge of
the trim panel.
Disregard the reference lines
2. Carefully peel the label off the tailgate. If
needed, apply mild heat from a heat gun with
care to soften the label’s adhesive.
3. Clean off any adhesive from the trim panel
using isopropyl alcohol.
4. Close the tailgate.
