SITUATION
The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is triggered by the erroneous fault code 031BFC- AC charging, charging electronics 2,
internal fault: No internal capacitor discharge stored in the CCU.
However, AC charging is operating as designed without a charging concern or issue.
Affected PHEV vehicles have the CCU-03 (7.4 kW / 11 kW) with I-levels from 24-07-500 to 25-11-5xx

CAUSE
Unfavorable diagnostic parameters for the AC charging buffer capacitors discharge function in the Combined Charging Unit
(CCU) software. This will lead to the erroneous fault 031BFC stored, and will trigger the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL).

CORRECTION
In the event an Affected Vehicle arrives with the issue stated above, proceed as follows:
Determine what is the vehicle’s current I-level by either using AIR or the Key Reader/Aftersales Workplace (AWP) application.
When the vehicle’s I-level is lower than …26-03-500:
Please do not proceed- the ISTA version with the update that corrects this software issue is expected to be available as of March

Clear fault code “031BFC”

Note:
Until ISTA I-level …26-03-500 is available, this issue (malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and fault memory entry 031BFC)
can occur multiple times.
If AC charging is working as designed and there is not a charging complaint, exchanging the CCU will not eliminate the
problem and is therefore not permitted.
Please inform the customer that there is no operational problem with the vehicle, and that a software update is expected
in March 2026. The vehicle should be released back to the customer, and it should be documented in the repair order
that the customer was informed of the situation.
If a customer refuses to pick up his/her vehicle, the area team should be contacted immediately. Vehicles should not sit
at the BMW center awaiting the software update.

If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the Plus code labor operation 00 00 556 instead of 00 00 006, or
exclude (including 61 21 528) when the Vehicle Test is included in another repair.
Claim Repair Comments

update release pending), unless otherwise required by State law.

To obtain the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance information from the BMW Group AIR application resource, start by
entering the the Chassis Number (last seven (7) characters of the VIN), and click on the “Search” icon. If the “Vehicle Selection”
window displays two or more model possible vehicle choices, select the applicable Model, or enter the full VIN (17 characters)
instead to proceed. Click on the “Flat Rate Units” button and enter a flat rate labor operation code number “without spaces” in the
field to the right, click on the “Search” icon to display the corresponding listing of “Flat rate unit group details” that are available
and their corresponding FRU allowances.
