Model Description
X3 Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV)

SITUATION
The customer returns after taking delivery of a
new G45 X3 SAV, with a piece of the air bag
warning hang tag stuck between the central
display screen upon attempting the tag’s
removal. The remaining portion of the tag is of
insufficient length to extract it.

CAUSE
Incomplete removal of the hang tag may occur when a left or right pulling/tearing motion is used.
Note: The hang tag must remain in place during QC1, to provide an initial visual resource to the customer
about the air bags in the vehicle. Only the customer can remove the hang tag after the retail hand-over.
Alternately, the customer can ask a BMW center associate to remove it at that time.

CORRECTION
Remove the remaining portion of the air bag warning hang tag.

PROCEDURE
Important Note: Please ensure that all center personnel that are involved directly with new
vehicle deliveries are aware of the following procedure so they can instruct the customer
on how to properly remove the air bag warning hang tag. This will help eliminate the need
for a customer to schedule a return visit to have above issue addressed.

1. When removing the air bag warning hang
tag:
Use two hands
Grasp the tag firmly, and
Pull straight down on the tag to cleanly tear and
detach it at the perforations

For those vehicles that arrive at your center with a piece of the hang tag stuck below the display screen- to
avoid damaging the screen and/or the instrument panel trim, remove the instrument cluster’s curved display
screen to access and remove the tag remnant.
See Repair Instructions REP 65 50 210 and the Claim Information section below first.

If you are using a Main labor operation code for another repair, then use the Plusposition labor operation
code 65 50 710 instead of 65 50 210.
Work time labor operation code 51 00 001 and 00 58 500 are not considered Main labor operations.

To obtain the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance information from the BMW Group AIR application
resource, start by entering the Chassis Number (last seven (7) characters of the VIN), and click on the
“Search” icon. If the “Vehicle Selection” window displays two or more model possible vehicle choices, select
the applicable Model, or enter the full VIN (17 characters) instead to proceed. Click on the “Flat Rate Units”
button and enter a flat rate labor operation code number “without spaces” in the field to the right, click on the
