Summary
On some Model Y vehicles, the rear view mirror upper camera cover is not sufficiently transparent, which may prevent infrared light from traveling through the cover, resulting in increased vehicle occupancy warnings in low-light conditions. This has no effect on vehicle operation or Autopilot features. Inspect the vehicle for symptoms related to the condition. If symptoms are present, replace the rear view mirror upper camera cover.

Condition
On some Model Y vehicles, the rear view mirror upper camera cover is not sufficiently transparent, which may prevent
infrared light from traveling through the cover, resulting in increased vehicle occupancy warnings in low-light
conditions. This has no effect on vehicle operation or Autopilot features.

Procedure
1. Remove the rear view mirror upper camera cover (refer to Service Manual procedure 15051802).
2. Hold the rear view mirror upper camera cover to a bright fluorescent or natural light, or position a bright flashlight
behind the cover.
NOTE: If using a flashlight, shine the light through the underside of the camera cover and inspect from the
outside. Refer to Figures 1 and 2 for flashlight positioning.
3. Inspect the rear view mirror upper camera cover for transparency (Figures 1 and 2).
NOTE: If a new revision -F upper camera cover is available, compare the existing camera cover to the new
part to determine if the existing part is transparent.

If the rear view mirror upper camera cover is transparent (Figure 1), reinstall the cover and components
removed for access, and discontinue this procedure. Use correction code S012615001.
•
If the rear view mirror upper camera cover is not transparent (Figure 2), continue to the next step.
4. Replace the rear view mirror upper camera cover with revision -F or later (refer to Service Manual procedure
15051802).
5. Reinstall all components removed for access and use correction code S022615001.
