Summary
On some Semi, the steering gear to reservoir return hose clamp may have loosened over time which may cause steering fluid leakage from the reservoir. Inspect the vehicle for symptoms related to the condition. If symptoms are present, replace the steering gear to reservoir return hose clamp with an updated part.

On some Semi, the steering gear to reservoir return hose clamp may have loosened over time which may cause
steering fluid leakage from the reservoir.
Correction
Inspect the vehicle for symptoms related to the condition. If symptoms are present, replace the steering gear to
reservoir return hose clamp with an updated part.

Procedure
1. Use a flashlight to inspect the Semi underbody and floor area directly under the steering gear to reservoir return
hose clamp for signs of steering fluid leakage (Figures 1 and 2).

If steering fluid leakage is not present, discontinue this procedure and close out this document using
correction code S012532003.
•
If steering fluid leakage is present, continue to the next step.
2. Disconnect the steering gear to reservoir return hose end (refer to Service Manual procedure 3201100001).
NOTE: A standard or spring-style hose clamp may already be installed on the return line (Figures 3 and 4).
Regardless of the currently installed hose clamp type, replace the clamp with an updated part.

3. Discard the previous hose clamp that attaches the steering gear to reservoir return hose to the reservoir barb
(Figures 3 and 4).
4. Inspect the steering gear to reservoir return hose end that connects to the reservoir barb for signs of damage
(Figures 5 and 6).

If damage is not present on the return hose end, skip to the next step.
•
If damage is present on the return hose end, replace the return hose and continue to the next step.
5. Clean any residual steering fluid from the reservoir area and surrounding components as required.
6. Use a dry shop towel to clean the outer surface of the steering reservoir barb (Figure 7).

7. Connect the steering gear to reservoir return hose end, and then reinstall all parts removed for access (refer to
Service Manual procedure 3201100001).
CAUTION: A new hose clamp (8 mm, 6.5 Nm) must be used to attach the return hose to the reservoir barb
(Figures 8 and 9). This procedure will have to be repeated if the incorrect hose clamp is installed.

8. Clean any residual steering fluid from the Semi underbody and work area as required.
