Issue
Symptom:
When an aftermarket coil is used, due to the unavailability of ignition coil, Part Number A043K694, the generator set does not shut down on command.
Root Cause:
Absence of a dedicated ground path from the controller to the ignition coil, preventing proper shutdown.
Resolution
Replace ignition coil Cummins Part Number A043K694 or Subaru OEM Part number 278-79450-01 with comparable part, Subaru OEM Part Number 277-79431-01.
To maintain generator set shutdown functionality, add a 5 -Pin 40A 12VDC Relay to the ignition coil kill circuit. This relay will provide correct ground signal from the
controller for proper spark termination.
Reason for Change
On HGJBB generators, when using Subaru OEM PN 277-79431-01 the ignition coil does not receive ground signal needed to terminate spark when the generator is
commanded off, causing the unit to continue running. Installing the relay resolves this issue by providing the required ground path to the ignition coil, ensuring proper
shutdown when the generator is switched off.
Service Instructions
1. Turn off the HGJBB generator set , Perform LOTO .
2. Remove the door enclosure by twisting the knob to open.
Note: If enclosure needs to be removed for adequate access be mindful of the enclosure tabs at the base pan.

3. Replace ignition coil with the replacement Subaru OEM Part number 277-79431-01

4. Install a 5-Pin 40A 12VDC Relay and wiring harness. These parts are to be sourced locally.

5. Connect relay coil to the generator following Table 1, example shown in Figure 4.
