Tail lights on left and right / rear lid tail lights

Information:

The customer complains about one of the following warning messages lighting up in the instrument cluster
or about the brief lighting up of the brake lights about 40 seconds after locking the vehicle.
Possible sporadic warning messages in the instrument cluster:

Right tail light faulty. Checking tail light
Left tail light faulty. Checking tail light

Please note that the warning message in the instrument cluster is initially deleted after an ignition change.
However, the warning messages may reoccur.
In conjunction with one of the warning messages in the instrument cluster, one of the following fault memory
entries is stored in the fault memory of the rear-end electronics control unit (BCM2):

B16D6F2 - Right outer tail light, limiting light defective (010150)
B16D4F2 - Left exterior tail light, limiting light defective (010140)
B16D7F1 - Center right tail light, LED module defective (010157)
B16D5F1 - Center left tail light, LED module defective (010147)

Please note that no fault memory entries are stored for the complaint "Brake lights lighting up after locking
the vehicle".
Action:

In the event of a customer complaint, replace all tail lights

Information
In rare cases, a software error in the tail light can lead to the aforementioned complaints, although the
function of the tail light is not impaired.
If the tail light is actually faulty, such as a faulty LED module, the warning messages are identical.
To ensure that the warning messages are caused by the sporadic software error, the lighting components
must be checked for proper function before replacing the tail lights.
