SITUATION

The hood is difficult to close, or may not close.
CAUSE

Sealing between the hood and side panel is too tight.
CORRECTION

There are multiple corrections:
Visually inspect the hood alignment

Inspect the hood bump stops for proper adjustment

Visually inspect the functionality of the hood latches when locking and unlocking (with hood open)

Adjust the hood if necessary
PROCEDURE

1. Verify that the CAUSE above is the customer’s concern.
2. Visually inspect the hood alignment, and reference repair instructions 41 61 014 for the proper

hood gap dimensions.

3. With the hood open, visually inspect the hood latches when locking and unlocking. Verify that there is no binding/restriction

on the latches.

4. Inspect the bump stops for proper adjustment following the repair instructions listed in ISTA/AIR 51 23 X02C.

5. Adjust the hood if necessary, following the repair instructions listed in ISTA/AIR 41 61 014.

6. Verify the repair.

BMW Group’s AIR Application Resource for Flat Rate Labor Operation Codes

To obtain the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance information from the BMW Group AIR application

resource, start by entering the the Chassis Number (last seven (7) characters of the VIN), and click on the

“Search” icon. If the “Vehicle Selection” window displays two or more model possible vehicle choices, select

the applicable Model, or enter the full VIN (17 characters) instead to proceed. Click on the “Flat Rate Units”

button and enter a flat rate labor operation code number “without spaces” in the field to the right, click on the

“Search” icon to display the corresponding listing of “Flat rate unit group details” that are available and their

corresponding FRU allowances.

Other Repairs

If other eligible and covered work is performed based on the diagnosis procedure above, claim this work

with the applicable Repair Code listed in AIR together with the corresponding labor operation codes and

their flat rate unit (FRU) allowance(s), including the diagnosis* that applies.
