Summary

Engine failure. There is a class action that has been filed for this exact make, model, and engine size. There were no lights indicating an issue and the car had recently been serviced with an oil change and oil filter change and was being regularly maintained on oil changes. When it was brought to a mechanic, they told me the entire engine had failed and there was no power to one of the spark plugs anymore. I reached out to GM regarding this and they acknowledged the failure

Vehicle Model: SIERRA 1500

Model Year: 2020

Summary

On Friday, January 30, 2026 while driving our 2020 GMC Sierra 1500, we experienced sudden loss of power and the motor making a faint rattling noise. The motor soon after began making a horrible sound - - it was obvious something was very wrong. This vehicle only had 31,995 miles on it at the of the issue. We had the truck towed to the dealer the following day for evaluation. Upon inspection, it was determined that the #5 lifter had collapsed and the left bank of lifters needed to be replaced at an estimated cost of $4500. There were no warning lamps or alerts on our app for over 24 hours. Once at the dealer, we explained to the service advisor that our research concluded that GM is fully aware of these issues and that they are under investigation for possible recall. Our service advisor then made a call to GM who agreed to cover this repair under warranty (which we appreciate and feel was the right thing to do). However, after additional research, we are concerned that the right bank of lifters will fail next, or even worse, catastrophic engine failure that GM will refuse to cover. It is our understanding that NTSB is aware of these issues and is in the process of conducting an investigation. I would like to have our issue added to the investigation.

Vehicle Model: PALISADE

Model Year: 2020

Summary

August 2025: While driving down the road and approaching a light, I slowed down to turn and make a left. As I braked, all lights on the instrument panel lit up and the car completely turned off. After several attempts to start the car again, the car started. After taking it to a shop, it was determined that the car had consumed all oil, despite being within the recommended milage range for oil change. I filed a complaint with Hyundai, who emailed me to talk to my local dealership. I responded and have yet to receive a response to my communication, as of February 20, 2026. Hyundai dealership has told me that I need to fail three oil consumption tests (I have), complete a combustion cleaning (it has recently been completed), and fail one more consumption test before they can submit to corporate for a new engine. In the meantime, I have experienced my car shaking, the smell of burning oil, my car "jolting" forward while driving at sustained speeds, and a tailpipe that is completely black with 67,800 miles currently on the car.
