Vehicle Model: EDGE

Model Year: 2017

Summary

On February 14th while operating the vehicle I experienced a braking failure where the brake pedal went to the floor and braking distance was increased. I had the vehicle towed to Ford of Columbus in Columbus, IN on the morning of Feb. 16th where it was confirmed that the rear brake hose had blown due to the associated recall. The failure is exactly due to the recall as acknowledged by both Ford Motor Company and the dealership. Ford Corporate acknowledged (case number XXX) that the repair should not be my financial responsibility yet they continue to demand that I pay out of pocket now for an interim repair because the "official" fix is not ready. By refusing to authorize a no cost repair for a vehicle that has already failed due to their recall, Ford is denying a safety remedy and forcing me to bear the financial burden of a known defect. I do not believe it is my responsibility to pay now and then have to jump through hoops to seek a refund at a "later date" determined by Ford. This is a deceptive and bad faith practice by Ford. I have called Ford Motor Company twice and have utilized the chat once. I have not heard back from the dealership in nearly 24 hours since asking for an update on the status of the repair that I have since approved. Summary

On February 17 at approximately 9:30 AM, while my wife was driving uphill, the vehicle abruptly shut down and became completely disabled. It began rolling backward despite her attempting to accelerate. Multiple warning alerts activated simultaneously, and the vehicle would not respond to forward input. Our [XXX] child was in the vehicle at the time. A total loss of power while in motion, combined with unintended rollback on an incline, represents a catastrophic safety defect. This was not a minor malfunction — it created a direct and immediate risk of collision and serious injury. Compounding this concern, on the morning following the incident at approximately 6:00 AM, I discovered one of the vehicle doors open without any user interaction. The vehicle had been secured the night before. This raises serious questions regarding electronic reliability and system integrity. Given the severity of these failures, I have lost confidence in the safety and dependability of this vehicle. My family’s safety cannot be subjected to further uncertainty. If this matter is not resolved promptly and satisfactorily, I am prepared to pursue all available legal and regulatory remedies, including formal complaints to appropriate federal safety authorities. Please confirm receipt of this letter and provide a written response outlining next steps within five business days. This situation placed my wife and child in direct danger. I expect a resolution that reflects the seriousness of that fact. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Summary

My Explorer has the optional double moonroof with an electric sunshade that opens or closes with a button. A week ago when I tried to retract the sunshade I noticed that the driver side of the fabric started drooping. After trying a few more times the roller failed to retract the fabric completely. So when I try to open the sunshade the fabric just hangs from the roller and impedes my view out the rear window, thereby creating a safety hazard

Summary

I was driving under normal conditions and the vehicle began lurching, limiting acceleration, with an error saying "reduce acceleration". Was able to get home but the next time the truck was started there was a check engine light and the vehicle was unable to shift into reverse gear. When attempting to put it into reverse, it gives the error "conditions not correct to shift" and turn on the parking break. Trying to drive it with this issue is unsafe. The truck will lurch, limit acceleration, and overall not safe to drive. The truck only has 21k miles on it.

Summary

Ghost touch concern on infotainment touchscreen, similar/same as SSPB6 which was issued for earlier Mazda3 models and extended to other Mazda models. When car is on and touchscreen is not disabled, it exhibits phantom touches, making it unsafe and unusable as it acts like it is being tapped all across the screen. this is especially dangerous when using the navigation which was nearly a $1000 added cost, as it stops the map from being centered on the car location and moves the viewport around as the phantom touches occur.
